The Difficulty of Estimating Phase

Phase is a relatively estimated quantity, but how do we decide what it is estimated relative to? We examine this question through three methods and three case studies and make the case for confidence interval estimation for phase.

State Space Modeling for Non-sinusoidal Rhythm Tracking

By modeling oscillations as damped harmonic oscillators with time-varying frequencies driven by noise and using a state space model we can model and track in real-time oscillations that are not well represented as band-limited oscillations.

Constraints imposed by sleep electrophysiological oscillations

Sleep oscillations have been implicated in supporting overnight memory consolidation. But how can we quantify this in a way that gives explanatory power to rhythms rather than the spikes that support them?
